Heidi encountered exploitation while living on the streets. She struggled with addiction and did what was needed for her survival. Even when there was hope, it never seemed to last. In Heidi’s journey, she found herself re-exploited within a short period of time due to a lack of economic resources. We see this time and time again.
“For so long, I identified as a repeat offender and a victim of trafficking, never seeing the possibility of something different. Today, I can look back and say I am a survivor. I absolutely love what I do.
Heidi’s journey continued down long roads of healing. In 2023, while working on becoming a licensed Esthetician, she was referred to us after completing one of our service partner’s empowerment programs, Elevate Academy, through the Rebecca Bender Initiative. Since last year, we have assisted Heidi with needed equipment and licenses and are proud to announce her completion of two different certifications, rounding out her portfolio in Dermaplaning, Advanced Chemical Peels and Modalities, as well as Advanced Training in Nano Infusion and Micro Channeling.
“I, for once in my life, was able to say, “I can do this and I have the support from someone else that believes in me.” Being able to not have to stress on figuring out loans or the financial hurdles that come with educational costs, I am able to focus on achieving my goals and put my heart into it. That right there is freedom I NEVER even knew existed. “
