From Pain to Purpose: Jenifer’s Journey of Empowerment and Change

Trauma from trafficking runs deep—it shatters trust, identity, and safety. For Jenifer, being trafficked at just 16 left emotional scars that shaped her view of herself and the world. In her pain, she tried to numb the trauma in any way she could. Eventually, it all caught up with her, leading to jail—a place that, unexpectedly, became a turning point. There, for the first time, she paused and realized she wanted more for her life. After her release, she entered a treatment program and bravely chose to face her past—an incredibly difficult step that marked the beginning of her healing.

“After treatment, I moved into a safe house in Orlando, where I finally felt protected and seen. It was the start of rebuilding myself from the inside out. I’m learning how to trust again, dream again, and believe that I am so much more than what happened to me. I'm still healing, still growing, and now I want to help others know that freedom and hope are possible.”

With One Purse’s support and belief in Jenifer, she found the tools and confidence to move forward—working in The rePURPOSE Project employment program while completing EMT training, earning her state license, graduating with an Associate’s in Fire Science, and now pursuing specialized training in fire investigation.

“I never imagined I’d be on this path, but now I’m working toward a career where I can make a real difference and prove that healing and success are possible. One Purse has been a place where I feel truly safe, and because of their support, I’m able to rebuild my life in such a meaningful way and accomplish so much.”

With the help of One Purse, pursuing fire investigation has given Jenifer a sense of purpose and strength she never knew she had. These achievements have restored her confidence and proved that she can overcome even the greatest challenges.

“As a mother of two boys, I want to be an example of resilience and hope. My educational and career goals are about more than just work—they’re about building a better future for my family and proving we can overcome anything together.”
