From Wounds to Wisdom: A New Chapter of Freedom

“Education can turn wounds into wisdom and give survivors the power to write a new chapter of freedom.”
Paloma was trafficked throughout her teenage years and into young adulthood. For a long time, she didn’t know how to escape or what it would take to have a chance at a normal life. With the help of a therapist and a few special people who stood by her, she was able to find a way out and receive the legal support she needed to finally break free
from her traffickers.

“One Purse played a pivotal role in my journey. They helped fund my undergraduate tuition in psychology, and today they are supporting my dream of becoming an attorney by assisting with my law school tuition”

Just a year ago, Paloma earned her bachelor’s degree, and now she is pursuing her JD so she can advocate for other trafficking survivors, ensuring they receive the justice and closure they deserve. Her educational journey has been transformative in her healing process. Each milestone reminds Paloma that she is not defined by the names and lies
her traffickers used against her—words like “stupid,” “worthless,” or “incapable.”

Instead, she has proven to herself that she is intelligent, capable, and worthy of success. “With my education, I know I will always have the means to support myself, live without fear, and never again be controlled by someone else’s money or power.”
