At just 24 years old, Sarah became trapped in the devastating reality of sex trafficking. She endured psychological manipulation and abuse until her trafficker abandoned her in pursuit of another opportunity. Left homeless and caring for her one-year-old child, Sarah faced an uncertain future with little more than hope to guide her forward.
During one of the darkest seasons of her life, Sarah found refuge at a small Christian-centered shelter for families. Although it was Christmas and the shelter had no available openings, they welcomed Sarah and her child with open arms.
“What began as a temporary place to stay became the foundation for a new life. I found community, counseling, employment support, transportation, and a church family that embraced me and my child with love and acceptance.”
Determined to create a different future for herself, Sarah persistence now shows through her higher education and she is enrolled in a Master of Social Work program. Along the way, One Purse came alongside her journey, providing scholarship support that helped remove financial barriers standing between her and her goals.
When Sarah’s laptop unexpectedly stopped working, her education was suddenly at risk.

The support Sarah received extended far beyond financial assistance. Through the One Purse Dream Cycle Series, she was encouraged to strengthen her faith and deepen her relationship with God. More importantly, Sarah found a community that consistently reminded her of her value, worth, and potential.
“Today, I am nearing completion of my Master’s degree and am preparing for a career that is deeply connected to my own lived experience. My goal is to become a trauma-informed therapist specializing in helping women who have experienced sex trafficking and exploitation. Through my education and personal journey, I am transforming my pain into purpose and creating pathways to healing for others who have walked similar roads.”
Sarah credits her educational journey with giving her renewed hope and a clear sense of purpose. It has empowered her to overcome financial obstacles, pursue meaningful work, and build a future defined not by her past, but by her resilience and determination.
The impact reaches beyond Sarah herself. Her children witness a mother who is committed to her education, dedicated to her goals, and actively creating a better future.
